Work with the plan

Filters, views and links

By default the chart shows the project's issues in board order. A JQL filter picks any set of issues; a view saves the filter with the way the chart looks.

Filter with JQL

Open Filter, type a JQL query and choose Apply. Some useful ones:

  • project = SHOP AND fixVersion = "1.5" ORDER BY Rank — one release
  • project = SHOP AND statusCategory != Done ORDER BY Rank — what is left
  • project in (SHOP, MOB, WEB) ORDER BY Rank — several projects in one plan
  • key = SHOP-1 OR parent = SHOP-1 ORDER BY Rank — one epic and its issues

Keep ORDER BY Rank to see the board order. A query Jira rejects shows Jira's own error message. This project goes back to the default. The chart loads up to 10,000 issues; with more it says so, and a narrower filter shows the rest.

Several projects

The chart lives in one project, but its filter can reach any project. Everyone sees only the issues they may browse, and can change only those they may edit. Dependencies between projects are drawn when both issues are in the plan.

Plans across projects: the Gantt page under Apps

Besides the tab in each project, YTI Gantt adds a Gantt page to Jira's Apps menu that belongs to no single project. It opens with the open epics of all projects (issuetype = Epic AND statusCategory != Done), a portfolio view of what is running when. Change the filter to any JQL, for example the epics of one team's projects, or everything due this quarter.

  • Views and baselines saved there are shared by everyone who opens that page, separately from the projects' own.
  • Everything else works as in a project: dragging, dependencies, critical path, workload, export. Jira checks each change against your permissions in that issue's project.
  • New issues are created from a project's Gantt tab, which knows the project.

Save a view

Open the view menu (it shows Default view at first), type a name and choose Save. A view keeps:

  • the JQL filter,
  • the zoom, grouping and colors,
  • whether the critical path, releases, sprints, workload panel and date columns are shown,
  • whether done issues are hidden and rows are sorted by start date,
  • whether auto-scheduling is on,
  • the baseline shown, if any.

Views belong to the project: everyone who opens the chart can pick them. With a view open, saving under the same name updates it, a new name makes a new one. Delete a view with its ✕, then Delete? to confirm. A project keeps up to 30 views.

The chart opens with the view you used last in that project (remembered by your browser). Choose Default view to go back to the project's issues.

When you open or save a view, the address in your browser changes to end in /view/…. Copy it and send it: the link opens the chart with that view, filter, grouping and baseline. Bookmark it for a plan you check every week.

Full screen

The ⤢ button opens the current view over the whole Jira window, with the same filter and baseline.
