Plan

Zoom and find your way

The chart works like a whiteboard: it opens with the whole plan on one screen, you zoom in where you need detail and drag the empty space to move around. There is no sideways scrolling to fight with.

The whole plan

The chart opens with every dated issue spread over the width of the screen. The date header picks its own steps (days, weeks, months or quarters) so labels never crowd. When the plan changes, for example a move pushes issues later, the scale follows and everything stays in view. The ⛶ button, or the key 0 (or f), brings the whole plan back from any zoom.

Zoom

ToDo this
Zoom in or outCtrl (⌘ on a Mac) + mouse wheel, a trackpad pinch, the − and + buttons, or the − and + keys
Keep a date in place while zoomingZoom with the pointer over it: the date under the pointer (or in the middle, with the keys) stays put
See the whole plan again⛶ or the key 0
Jump to todayToday in the toolbar (shown when you are zoomed in)

The steps go from quarters through months and weeks to days. The zoom is part of a saved view.

Move around

  • Drag an empty part of the chart to move left, right, up or down.
  • Scroll with the mouse wheel to move up and down; the list on the left scrolls with it.
  • The ↑ and ↓ keys select the previous or next issue and keep it in view.
  • Clicking an issue in the details panel, in Plan health or in a dialog scrolls the chart to it and selects it.

The list on the left

  • The ☰ button hides the list: the timeline takes the whole width and the bars show the keys.
  • Drag the line between the list and the timeline to make the list wider or narrower.
  • The arrow next to a parent folds it; Display → Expand all and Collapse all do it for every parent.
  • Display → Date columns adds Start, End and working days next to the names, to read and type dates (see Move and schedule issues).

Find issues

Type in Find issues: only the issues whose key, summary, assignee or status contains the text stay, with their parents so you still see where they belong. Type a name to see one person's issues, or In Progress for what is running. The footer counts the matches; Esc or ✕ clears the search.

The Display menu

OptionDoes
Group byHierarchy (epics, stories, subtasks: the default), assignee, status, issue type, or a flat list

Releases, SprintsThe project's fix versions and Scrum sprints on the timeline
WorkloadWorking days per person under the chart (see Workload and overlaps)
Date columnsStart, End and Days next to the names
Hide done issuesLeaves out finished work; a done epic stays while it has open issues; the footer counts what is hidden
Sort by start dateRows next to each other follow their start date (epics by their first issue), unscheduled issues last; off, the board order
Expand all, Collapse allEvery parent at once
Reload from JiraReads the plan again with what others changed meanwhile

The chart also reloads by itself when you come back to its browser tab after more than a minute, unless a draft or a save is open. Save the arrangement as a view to come back to it.

Full screen, theme and language

  • The ⤢ button opens the same chart and view over the whole Jira window; Close or Esc returns, and the page shows your changes. Publish or discard a draft first.
  • The chart follows Jira's light or dark theme.
  • It speaks English, German or Spanish, following each person's Jira language (other languages show English).
